As someone from the land locked Midlands who learned to swim as a teenager and gets seasick in a puddle, the ocean isn't exactly a territory I'm set up to thrive in.
I've been on a rowing machine a handful of times and am more comfortable lacing up and running marathons and ultras than I am practicing capsize and person overboard drills. But my modus operandi since childhood has been ‘what I lack in talent I make up for in enthusiasm’ and this challenge will be no different.
Every time in my life there's been suggestion it'll be hard, or success isn't a given or there's a possibility I might not make it, I've moved towards that challenge and always cleared whatever bar is set with room to spare.
I've spent more than two decades defining myself as a mum of three, a journalist, a Sunday Times bestselling ghostwriter, a marathoner and ultra marathoner. I want to define myself from next year as a woman who crossed an ocean.
There are no two finer women to take on this endeavour with than Mel and Rosie. We’ve rowed with the flow since we met for the first time on a rainy night in Richmond and I can’t wait to pull on the oars with these two and make our way across the Atlantic towards the women we’ll be when we step off the other side.
From a young age, I've always had a deep love for adventure, embracing every challenge that came my way. I've seen first-hand how far sheer determination can take you, even in the most testing of times.
My journey towards the world’s toughest row began in London, where I attended a few adventure talks and heard incredible stories of people rowing across the Atlantic. I remember thinking, Wow, that sounds amazing! From that moment, I knew this was something I had to do. The only question was when—and with whom.
Growing up in Australia, I was surrounded by the stunning beauty of the ocean and wildlife, sparking a lifelong love of rowing. When I moved to London, I continued to row socially, feeling right at home on the water. And so, the idea of rowing across the Atlantic started to feel less like an impossible dream and more like a calling.
I’m also deeply passionate about championing women in sport. It’s so important to normalise female representation in these incredible challenges. When it came to choosing the right crew for this epic journey, I was cautious—this is not a challenge to take lightly. But then I met Rosie and Claire. These two strong, humble women are the perfect companions for this journey. I couldn’t ask for a better team to share this once-in-a-lifetime experience with.
And to fuel our drive, we’re supporting two incredible charities, whose causes motivate us every day to push ourselves harder, knowing that every stroke brings us closer to the finish line and a greater purpose. This journey is about so much more than just rowing—it’s about strength, unity, and making a difference
I'm someone who thrives on challenge and pushing myself beyond my limits. Rowing the Atlantic is more than just an adventure—it’s a test of resilience, determination, and self-belief. I want to prove to myself what I’m truly capable of, both physically and mentally. The vast ocean, the relentless conditions, and the solitude will push me in ways I’ve never experienced before, and that’s exactly why I want to take on this challenge. But it’s not just about me—I want to inspire others to take on their own challenges, no matter how big or small. We all have the potential to achieve more than we think, and if my journey encourages even one person to step outside their comfort zone and chase their own goal, then every stroke across the Atlantic will be worth it.
I can’t wait to take this on with Clare and Mel and I couldn’t ask for better teammates. We each bring our own strengths to the crew and we all have weaknesses that will challenge us along the way. That’s what makes this journey so special; we’ll learn from each other, push each other, and grow together as a team. I know that no matter what the ocean throws at us, we’ll face it together, turning our challenges into strengths and making each other better every step of the way.
